Amazing Alphabet Books Galore for Preschoolers and Kindergarten Kids

Oh my, yet another new stage of learning has made its way into your life. And this time it requires books ... alphabet books.

If you're anything like me - and being honest with yourself - you'll probably feel that it's great, exciting even ... but jeez, you're also starting to realize that now you have to get at it again ... the hunt!

Yes, it's really wonderful that our kids are growing and learning ... BUT it's us, the parents, who have to provide the stimulus and make sure that it's available in our home (or classroom if you're a teacher).

So besides being excited about teaching the alphabet to your kids, you might also let out a deep sigh or two (and rightly so) thinking about the time (and money) you're about spend on finding good alphabet books for your child.

Despite knowing your child fairly well, you might not yet know what kinds of ABC books will appeal the most to your child and how your child will learn best in this regard.

This is why I've created this wonderful and varied alphabet book library so you can save money and time instead of endlessly hunting down books for your kids on the internet.

Large alphabet books libraby for preschoolers and kindergarten kids.

With the Positive Parenting Ally's Alphabet Series you'll get a varied series of fun, decorative, and educational books tailored to preschoolers and kindergarten children. A whole alphabet library.

Thus if you're a teacher, a homeschooling mom or dad or just a parent who loves educational books for kids, I'm sure you'll find this series very useful because there are so many different types of alphabet books AND you can have them all at one simple go if you want.

Calling my series an "alphabet library" might be considered a bit over the top, but that is really how I view it.

When coming up with this concept, I had a clear image in my mind of you (a parent, a teacher) or a child looking through an electronic or printed out collection of ABC books and going,

  • "Hmmm ... what do I feel like today? What kind of theme attracts me? Do I want to just read or do I want to be (inter)active?"

Some days you and your children might feel drawn to books with lots of wonderful rhymes and poetry. At other times the funny and absurd might be ideal.

And then there might be days when being stimulated to being more actively involved is what is required, and interactive books such as going hunting for the letters or coloring the pages might just be exactly what you need.

In this alphabet library there should be something for every taste, preference and occasion. And most books combine several of the above attributes.

Lots of wonderful, educational alphabet books from Positive Parenting Ally's Alphabet Series.

If you take a closer look at the Positive Parenting Ally's Alphabet Series, you will discover that it actually consists of standalone alphabet books + 2 subseries:

  1. Standalone alphabet books that may be bought with a complementary coloring book
  2. The Alphabet Detective Series
  3. The Vintage Alphabet Books series

All depending on your need, you can choose to buy:

  • ... just one book
  • .... a subseries with a discount, 25% off
  • ... the whole alphabet series with an even greater discount, 33% off

All books are available as books in a high quality image resolution, published in the three most popular ebook formats:

  1. PDF (what I'd recommend if you intend to print them out)
  2. Epub (for most ebook readers)
  3. Mobi (for Kindle ebook readers)

(Technical note: When testing the ABC books on different brands of eReaders, I discovered a problem with the popular Kobo eReader. As a default setting, Kobo has a very large footer displaying reading progress which overlays the pictures in some of the books. For you to get the full benefit of viewing the books full-screen, I've written a Kobo eReader guide that you might want to follow if you have a Kobo.)

But for now, please let me give you a tour through my alphabet book library. 😊

Standalone Alphabet Books

My Amusing Alphabet Book

My Amusing Alphabet Book by Birgitte Coste. A funny and humorous alphabet book for kids with rhyming verse.

Buy My Amusing Alphabet Book for $5.50

My Amusing Alphabet Book is a funny, beautiful, and yet completely absurd children's book that aims at teaching children all of the 26 letters in the English alphabet.

To illustrate each letter, I have made a drawing depicting a scene from an incredibly silly situation or a story that is written just below the drawing.

My hope is that such absurd tales will appeal to children's vivid and still very active imagination - and maybe, if we're lucky, it will loosen up the adult mind a bit, too. 😉

Each story is short and in rhyming verse with lots of alliterations, e.g. "Aunt Agatha was an amazing acrobat" etc.

In this way children are taught both what the particular letters look like (both in upper case and lower case letters) and how the different letters sound to the ear.

So if your children enjoy silly tales and stories, My Amusing Alphabet Book might be right up their alley.

Thus My Amusing Alphabet Coloring Book was born right along with My Amusing Alphabet Book. They are completely identical, except that this one is without colors.

In these Find the Hidden Letters books, children are to find hidden letters in the pictures. E.g. it could be a tree shaped like a V or a signpost shaped like a T or something like that.

To help your budding detective get an idea of where to look in the photo, below each photo you'll find a small verse in rhyme that works as a cue to finding the letter.

It doesn't matter if your child doesn't yet know the letters, as each letter is clearly shown on the page, and your child just has to visually scan the photo for that particular shape.

You can start each page by reading the rhyme to your child or you can let your child try to find the letter first without any help, and then use the rhyme as a cue or form of checklist. It's all up to you.

If, despite the cue, you find that the letter remains hidden, you can always go to the end of the book, where you'll find the solution pages. Here you can see where each letter is to be found in each photo.

The Alphabet Detective, Find the Hidden Letters books exist in a winter, spring, summer, and autumn version.

The pages below are from the summer version. The other books covering winter, spring, and autumn are built in the exact same way.

Alphabet Detective: Find the Hidden Objects

Alphabet Detective, Find the Hidden Objects. Classic Art Version by Birgitte Coste. An interactive alphabet book for kids.

In the Alphabet Detective: Find the Hidden Objects version your child is supposed to find objects (starting with a specific letter) hidden somewhere in the pictures (which consist of beautiful art paintings or drawings that I have found online and that were in the public domain (copyright expired)).

Here is how to go about the detective work: as mentioned, within each painting your child is supposed to find an object that starts with the letter in question.

E.g. if the page is about A, your child is supposed to find something in the painting that starts with the letter A. E.g. it could be an ape, arm or airplane etc.

Thus the objects can be basically anything: animals, body parts, something in nature, a type of person, an act etc.

Just like what is the case in the Find the Hidden Letters books, you can go to the solution pages for help if you can't find a particular object.

Please notice that it's a slider, so you need to push the small buttons near the bottom of the image below to change the page. Subseries #2: Beautiful Vintage Alphabet Books

My Vintage Alphabet Books series consists of beautiful antique alphabet books with an original publishing date pinned somewhere in the years between 1850-1910.

None of the books were 'books' when I found them in the public domain, they were just isolated images with an expired copyright.

What I've then done is that I've gathered the old, often battered, illustrations and tried to restore them to their former glory - or at least as close to that as I could without comprising their charming vintage beauty. And then I've made a wonderful book of each of them.

In each book you'll also find a foreword providing information about the book itself (what I could dig up about the authors, publishers and other relevant themes pertaining to the book) and I'm really very happy about the result.

Also I just love the idea of bringing these books back to life - immortalizing them and their creators by making them available to children today.

So do take a look below and see if there are any of the books that appeal to you. 😊

Get Hiawatha Alphabet
$4.50

Hiawatha Alphabet by author Florence Holbrook and illustrator H. D. Pohl is a lovely old vintage book from 1910.

Each page in the book represents a letter and contains a short poetic verse in rhyme, easy for small children to understand.

In my view there are several wonderful gains for children when reading Hiawatha Alphabet: it teaches children the alphabet letter by letter, it plays with sound of the English language in its rhymes, and it offers a little educational window into how life may have been for the native American Indians.

Alice's Alphabet from 1884 by Margaret Johnson is one of the most beautifully illustrated vintage books for children in my old ABC books collection.

Alice's Alphabet has dedicated an entire page to each letter, which includes both a decorative and colorful drawing and a poem that rhymes.

The letters in the poems may be a little bit hard to decipher at first, and finding the rhythm of reading it out loud may take a little bit of practice, but after a page or two I'm sure you'll get the hang of it. I did.

A Apple Pie is quite special as it contains some of the oldest known alphabet rhymes for children. In fact some of the rhymes in A Apple Pie date all the way back to 1671.

A Apple Pie is about a big apple pie that all children want to taste. And in their quest to get a piece of the apple pie, the children will perform various, often naughty, acts. Fortunately there is a happy ending and everybody gets a piece of the pie.

Adventures of ABC and Other Little People is a beautifully illustrated little alphabet book from 1880 or 1890. Sources differ on the publishing year.

Adventures of ABC and Other Little People consists of 26 small, independent stories, one for each letter.

Most of the stories are about adventurous children discovering the world in various ways. Some of the stories also contain absurd - but funny - dialogues.

All in all, Adventures of ABC and Other Little People is a beautiful, original, and funny little vintage treasure. The stories in Adventures of ABC and Other Little People are written in verse and rhymes and are thus ideal for reading out loud to small children.

The language is a bit old-fashioned here and there and might require some explanation from you. But all in all, doesn't that just add to the book's charm? I think it does!

Funny Alphabet

Funny Alphabet from 1850.

Get Funny Alphabet
$1.50

Funny Alphabet is a wonderful little vintage alphabet book for children. Originally published in 1850, Funny Alphabet is actually the oldest of the antique alphabet books that I've seen so far.

When you look at the pictures and compare them to some of the other antique ABC books I've published, it somehow does become clear that this one wins the age prize: The style is very simplistic, but still humorous in its own way.

The images mainly depict men, sometimes children (no women, except for a mermaid), doing funny and crazy acrobatic positions when forming the letters.

The text is short, in verse and rhymes. I personally couldn't understand the meaning of everything that was written - maybe because I'm a Dane and don't know the expression or what is referred to, or maybe it's simply a question of the passing of time - that what was written made sense back then, but not now. Who knows?
